About

The Challenge

Mary seeks a solution that allows her to put on and take off a CPAP mask easily. CPAP masks are an important device helping those with Sleep Apnoea to breathe while sleeping. Impacted by Thalidomide, Mary lives with quadruple shortened limbs, which affects her ability to independently apply her mask. Being able to put a CPAP mask on will improve her sleep and reduce fatigue.

The Concept

Team Mary proposed a pressure-sensitive system to enable the application of a CPAP mask independently.

The mask is positioned on a platform and the straps are held up by two articulated arms. When Mary leans on the platform, the arms pivot to lift the strap around Mary’s head. The proposed solution would include a storage box fitted with UV lights which would clean the mask when the box is closed.
