Accessible Backpack
A modified sling bag that enables an individual with low vision to easily access and identify different compartments of the bag.
The Challenge
Steve has complete loss of central vision and limited peripheral vision. With the use of his cane and various visual aids (i.e., eyeglasses and magnifying glasses), Steve maintains a great level of independence. However, as a person with visual impairment Steve is mindful about his safety in the community. Steve has expressed a desire for a less cumbersome accessory that allows him to easily organise, access and protect his belongings whilst out in the community.
Steve’s team created the ‘Steve Swing’, an accessible backpack allowing him to organise and access his required items.
The Steve Swing is bright yellow with a rigid body and customized inbuilt side compartments. Steve can swing the bag to the front of his body and access his belongings from the side compartment.
