Mary & Amy

This month we’re thrilled that we were able to connect past Need-Knower, Amy Marks and current TOM Need-Knower Ambassador & Disability Resource Centre for Advocacy (DRC) Chairperson, Mary Henley-Collopy.

Amy participated in TOM events during 2016-2018 and Mary from 2019. The pair had never met. So when Mary asked us if we knew anyone that would be interested in being part of the DRC Board, we knew Amy was an excellent recommendation for the job!

Amy is now the newest and youngest DRC board member and will be working alongside Mary to create inclusive communities and inform systemic change. They will be presenting the needs and views of people with disability to government, service providers and the broader community, as well as providing individual advocacy to adults with disability.

Hans Mestizo

This month we’re spotlighting Hans Mestizo, who participated as a Maker in the 2019 TOM: Melbourne Makeathon.

He worked as part of an incredible team to help Joanne, an individual with poor motor control, to easily and independently brush her teeth.

Amy Marks

This month we’re spotlighting Amy, who participated in the 2017 Makeathon and the 2018 Developer Groups as a Need-Knower.

She is now working on the National Youth Disability Summit at CYDA – Children and Young People with Disability Australia.
What’s Amy been up to during lockdown?

Some of you might remember Amy from the 2017 Makeathon and the 2018 Developer Groups! After following her long-term dream of working at Walt Disney World, she is now home and working on the National Youth Disability Summit at CYDA – Children and Young People with Disability Australia. The summit starts next week, is free and online! Click here to check it out. Amy says:

“I’m genuinely excited for people with disability to get together and learn from each other and share their unique and valued expertise and experiences over the 5 days. I also encourage Makers without a disability to come along on the open day themed around awareness, access and inclusion to learn more about the disability community and what young people want it to look like. Who knows you may come up with an idea for your next project!”

Amy, we’re so proud of you and can’t wait to see you take over the world!
