THE CHALLENGE

Alan and his support team would like to develop a device to help Alan communicate overnight. Alan communicates using his right hand and fingers. Due to the position of his bed, support workers must reach over Alan and hold his arm to allow him to communicate at night. His support team is looking for a solution which supports Alan’s arm and facilitates communication.

THE SOLUTION

Alan and the team developed an armrest which elevates his hand enough to enable him to communicate with his support team. The armrest is made of wood and high-density foam, with a breathable and waterproof fabric cover. The solution allows Alan to communicate comfortably and independently.
