About

The Challenge

Amy uses crutches to mobilise, which can affect her balance and limit the use of her hands. As a media student, Amy wants to be able to film documentaries and short films independently with a hand-held camera, which she currently finds difficult. Our challenge is to produce a device that will assist Amy to film whilst maintaining her stability on crutches.

This project reflects work we were involved in previously; however, the design no longer aligns with our current focus due to the nature of the solution or the challenge. We are now more mindful of the safety and suitability of DIY design solutions. We share this in the spirit of acknowledging the valuable contributions of our volunteers and supporting open collaboration.

The Concept

The team designed a simple camera stabilisation vest that is worn over the shoulders and strapped around the waist. The stabilisation system was made using 3D printed parts and Loc-line, allowing the camera to be repositioned as needed. To increase comfort and usability, padding and Velcro were added to the straps.
