The Challenge
Jack and his physiotherapist would like a solution to support his body in the water independently. Jack has a regular exercise routine at the pool to maintain his mobility. Currently, Jack is supported by his exercise therapist to float in an upright position, which limits the range of exercises he can do safely.
This project reflects work we were involved in previously; however, the design no longer aligns with our current focus due to the nature of the solution or the challenge. We are now more mindful of the safety and suitability of DIY design solutions. We share this in the spirit of acknowledging the valuable contributions of our volunteers and supporting open collaboration.
Jack’s teams have created a two-part system so that he can independently float upright.
Team ‘Lasercutterz’ created a pillow with inbuilt neck support and an anchor system that ensures Jack remains secure while floating on his back.
Team ‘Double Destiny Design’ developed a customised wetsuit which has several pockets for foam, helping to stabilise Jack in the water. The large zips make it easy to put on the suit. These solutions combine to form a unified system for Jack.
