The Challenge
John is in search of a simple and manageable method for putting on a dog lead. Traditional dog leads, featuring spring-loaded clips or clasps attached to a collar, are not suitable for amputees or individuals living with limited motor control. Therefore, John is seeking a system that allows him to safely, securely, and independently operate a dog lead.
This project reflects work we were involved in previously; however, the design no longer aligns with our current focus due to the nature of the solution or the challenge. We are now more mindful of the safety and suitability of DIY design solutions. We share this in the spirit of acknowledging the valuable contributions of our volunteers and supporting open collaboration.
Team John developed a two-part prototype solution to allow him to take his dog for walks.
This solution includes a retractable dog lead connected to John’s wheelchair. The dog’s harness is integrated with a magnetic V-Buckle that John can operate on his own.
