The Challenge
Christian and his team of support workers would like to develop a headrest that stabilises his neck as he moves his head forward and laterally. His current headrest only supports his neck when his head is upright and not tilted.
This project reflects work we were involved in previously; however, the design no longer aligns with our current focus due to the nature of the solution or the challenge. We are now more mindful of the safety and suitability of DIY design solutions. We share this in the spirit of acknowledging the valuable contributions of our volunteers and supporting open collaboration.
Team ‘TechNeck’ made a robotic wheelchair headrest for Christian that will move with his head to provide lateral support.
This design can be mounted on any wheelchair. It features adjustable pivot points, an on-off switch, and a quick removable mechanism. The concept allows Christian to move his head into the position he wants with support, which may decrease his pain and discomfort long term.
