About

The Challenge

Stacey and John have asked the teams to design a device to keep their legs warm and dry during the winter. They are both wheelchair users who regularly spend time outdoors. They would like a device that keeps their legs warm (ideally electrically) and protected from the rain. For both Stacey and John, keeping warm and staying dry during winter is a priority.

The Concept

The students have worked with Stacey and John over the semester to develop a heated blanket that would help to heat the extremities and also remain stylish. The device utilises a concealed heat pack powered by a battery or wheelchair to provide additional heating as required.

This project reflects work we were involved in previously; however, the design no longer aligns with our current focus due to the nature of the solution or the challenge. We are now more mindful of the safety and suitability of DIY design solutions. We share this in the spirit of acknowledging the valuable contributions of our volunteers and supporting open collaboration.
