About
The Challenge
Mandy is a quadruple amputee who sometimes uses a wheelchair. Whenever she uses her wheelchair in the garden or out on a dirt road, her husband needs to clean all 6 wheels manually with a brush. For many permanent wheelchair users, this simple task would be extremely difficult without the appropriate support. Mandy would like to create a device which allows wheelchair users to easily and independently clean the wheels of their wheelchair.
The Concept
Mandy’s team created a device which enables a motorised wheelchair to have its wheels cleaned.
The device featured a wheelchair docking station which Mandy could drive onto, akin to an automatic car wash. The wheels would then be cleaned by rotating brushes powered by the wheelchair’s own power drive.
